Conversation in the Afterglow

They lie on the bed, their legs entwined his head
between resting her breasts, their breathing
returning to normal as their heated skin cools.
"Scully?" he says into her skin.
"Mmmm, what, Mulder? She lazily replies as her
fingers sift through his hair. He slowly lifts his
head to meet her eyes, his chin lightly resting over
her heart. She feels his hand caress her bare belly.
"How long until you get the bump?"
She let's out a small laugh. "Bump?"
"Yeah the bump, the sign that not only are Mr.
and Mrs. Spooky doing the funky monkey
dance, but that Spooky Jr. will soon to be
blessing them all with his presence."
"Ahhh, that bump." She smiles and leans in to kiss
his hair.
He circles her navel with his index finger. "You
know, I can't wait until your belly button pops
out like the timer on a Butterball turkey."
She bursts out into laughter. "Mulder, if you ever
even just consider calling me Butterball, your
manhood will be in serious danger."
He gives her his best wounded look. "Me? Call
you Butterball? ...Never! Besides, you couldn't
live without my manhood.
She let's out a snort "Let me just remind you
that I did live without it for the first six and a half
years I knew you."
"I know and look how cranky you were all that
time." Scully reaches down and gives one of his
luscious butt-cheeks a hard pinch.
"Owww! Hey!
She smiles sweetly at him. "Just showing you
cranky, Sweetheart."
He smiles and plants a kiss between her breasts
and works his way down. "It *kiss* was *kiss*
me *kiss* that was *kiss* cranky. He stops at
her belly and looks up at her, with a smile.
"Dear."
"Mulderrr, don't make me pinch you again."
"All right, all right, sorry." He kisses her belly again
"You know, you never did say when you'll be
getting your bump."
She feathers back his hair. "Not for a couple of
more months."
"That long?"
"Afraid so, Daddy"
He kisses around her belly, and whispers into it.
"You hear that kid? I'm your Daddy. I'm going to
do everything in my power to make sure you and
your mommy stay healthy, happy, and with me for
a very long time."
"Mulder," she whispers as she feels tears form
in her eyes.
He moves up her body so that his face is level with
hers, and brushes her tears away with his thumbs.
"That's the reason I have to go back to Oregon.
It's more important now than it ever was in the
past that we find the truth, that we stop
whatever they have planned before it starts."
Scully whimpers and pulls Mulder's body into a
tight embrace. He returns the embrace then moves
onto his back settling her on top of him. She buries
her face into his neck as his hands run up and down
her back soothing her. "Don't go." She whispers into
his neck. "Please, stay here, send the Gunmen, send
anyone, just... don't go."
He puts his hands on each side of her face, bringing
her face up to his and gently kissing her lips. "Believe
me, I don't want to go, but I have to. You have to
understand I can't run the risk of them doing
something to you or our baby. You're all I have left,
Scully...all I ever really had, and I'm not going to
lose you, okay?
"But what if I lose you?"
"Oh, Baby, you're not going to get rid of me that
easily. I'll be back I promise."
She gives him a sad smile, nods and snuggles into
his chest. "You better." She mumbles.
"I will, Scully. You can count on it" He kisses the top
of her head wishing he could be as confident as he
sounded.

Additional Author's Notes: This story kind went in
a different direction than I originally had in mind, but
I think it's okay. I have always liked the thought of
Mulder knowing about Scully's pregnancy before
he left for Oregon. Let me know what you thought
